Raiders Gridiron Academy at Lugarno Festival
Last weekend the UNSW Raiders Youth Gridiron Academy (RGA) were invited to exhibit at the Lions Lugarno Spring Festival.
This was an awesome opportunity for the UNSW Raiders Gridiron Club and Bring it on Sports to showcase their Youth Football Program. All the boys who were able to travel to the festival to participate braved the weather and had an awesome time playing a 30 minute tackle football game in the Lugarno Festival Main Arena.
There has been a lot of hype regarding American Football in the media lately with Jarryd Hayne
making the move from the NRL to the NFL to make the 53 man San Francisco 49er’s roster however not many of the general public really understand the game.
Coach Paul Manera did a spectacular job commentating the RGA exhibition so that onlookers had a much better understanding of not only what the boys were demonstrating but also giving them a better understand of the game of American Football!
Following the exhibition the RGA moved the the Lugarno Festival “Youth Sports Arena” where they ran a “Come and try” session. Around 15 kids joined in the fun with the RGA players learning throwing footballs into the Quarterbacknets and carrying the football while running into the hand shields.
The UNSW Raiders and Bring it on Sports would like to thank the all of the parents who made the trip to Lugarno Festival to make the exhibition possible.
